I have to make your coffee cold
This time.
"I hope our coffee gets cold next time," I said.
"Yeah, I hope we laugh and forget that we have coffee to drink." He smiled at me.
We stood up and left; we left our cup empty, but it was still hot.
As soon as both of us slowly walked away from each other, the faster my heart beating.
Because we know that our ‘shake hands’ wasn’t a goodbye; it’s just still the beginning.
Ten years ago, we were the closest ones. His house was my house. His things were my things. What’s mine was his, too.
The only thing that wasn't mine... was him.
I'm walking towards their house to play with him. Then I saw their car slowly moving away.
Where they'll go?
Days, months, and years had passed, and no little boy called me to play with him.
While I was in my moment of silence, his message broke it.
"I'm sorry if I leave you that day. I didn't even wave my hand for a farewell nor say 'goodbye'.
I'm still waiting."
He's still waiting, where is he?
I went to a cafè alone but still ordered a hot coffee. I walked to the table where we left our cup empty. I saw him, waiting.
Now, I'm wondering why I'm here. But maybe, it's because ten years of avoidance is enough.
He looked at me with tears in his eyes,
"I’m...worried that you won’t let me make your coffee cold this time."
I sat and put my coffee on the table.
"I think...I have to make your coffee cold. This time, too. " I smiled at him.
We didn't sip our coffee when we apologized to each other. We didn't look out the window. Instead, we looked into each other's eyes when we both asked, "How are you?".
This moment became clear to me why "We" is important. For you to have your coffee cold, both of you must say something you didn’t hear before— a story behind your sorry.
We came at around 9:00 PM, and we finished by 11:20 PM.
We fix ourselves and lend our hands. I don’t want him to know that I want to see him again. But…
"I hope we see each other... after our coffee gets cold."
We stood up and left our cups empty. But this time... it wasn't hot anymore.
