Familiar is JUST familiar
They say that for you to meet your one true love, you have to meet two people in your life.
A person for puppy love that I met when I was twelve, and a person for your almost a partner but never been a lover.
When I was in my second year of high school, my eyes met a walking caffeine — you made me feel like I was in the last stage of palpitation.
That’s when I knew, that love…
Is not all about flowers and chocolates. Instead, it’s a blue varsity jacket and fitted pants. As people notice my sparkly eyes when I look at you from afar, the more they make my heartbeat louder than their giggles and screams.
Then you finally took the first step in our dressmaking class, “Can you teach me how to do those stitches?”
I immediately get the needle, thread, cloth, and a piece of careful glance in your face. Your eyes that I can’t read, your nose that can smell my feelings, and your cherry-like lips that’s tempting me to touch.
Then, I suddenly became a snowman under the sun — I melted as your eyes seemed to touch my skin.
Days, months, and years had passed. And yet, our me-and-you relationship was always like a lifeline; it had ups, downs, and sometimes a consistent straight line.
I asked you, “What are we?”
Then you answered me, “The sunset is beautiful, isn’t it?”
We have never been friends, ‘cause friends don’t do forehead kisses with a look in our eyes as if we want to say something. We have never been lovers, ‘cause lovers say “I love you”.
We are almost…
A rock suddenly hit my feet, and I got on the ground. I stumbled upon a familiar feeling.
It makes my eyes squint, trying to remember.
A familiar feeling is JUST familiar, but it’s not as clear as I knew what love is today.
Love is not a blue varsity jacket and fitted pants. It’s a hand that helps me to get up from stumbling over a familiar memory. It’s a force that helps to have my strength. And it’s a gentle touch that calms my breath.
